Anna Kim, the author of a book "Botanko" went through childhood being in the Japanese community in the city near Seoul. Going through the history upturns and downturns, Japanese people were not always on her side, but after years past, she has devoted countless hours here in Los Angeles as a volunteer to help young people in trouble especially with young people from Japan providing "Inochi No Denwa" or life-line calls.
She has just retired and this will be her first visit to our community after her retirement.

With the gentrification capturing some area of Seinan, we would like to know what's
happening there! How is the community bonding? How can we make friends with the
JA people there.

"Bokashi" is a popular method of reducing food waste. Under "Sustainable Little Tokyo" protocol, Amy and her group is inviting community members to participate in "Bokashi Club." Please join us in welcoming Amy Utsunomiya Honjo! She has a vast knowledge in sustainability (not just a protocol!) and observed examples in Japan as well. "Bokashi" is not just a food waste reduction but you will have your own compost to create your home garden even if it is a small planter at your balcony and produce health vegitables, health and appreciation for the seasons.. The original Sustainable Little Tokyo Masterplan included "community garden" and "Bokashi" is a step forward to the "tangible" sustainability! |
